Key Stage 4 Results: 2019

Please note, in 2020 and 2021, students were awarded Teacher Assessed Grades / Centre Assessed Grades. The last set of published, public, results were in 2019.

The headline accountability measures for schools from 2017 are: Attainment 8, Progress 8, Attainment in English and Maths (9-4), and English Baccalaureate (EBacc) entry and achievement.

Kingdown School is extremely proud of the GCSE results that have been achieved in 2019, once again reflecting the hard work and commitment of students and staff in the school, and the ongoing great support from our parents.

As a school, we are very proud of each and every one of our students and wish them all well as they embark on their next stage of education or training. We would like to thank all parents, students and teachers for their hard work during their studies at Kingdown School.

Our headline figures for 2019 include:

  • 49% of students achieved a Grade 5+ in both English and Maths
  • 68% of students achieved a Grade 4+ in both English and Maths
  • 21% of students gained five or more GCSEs at Grade 7 or higher
  • 75% of students gained five or more GCSEs at Grade 4 or higher
  • Across all GCSE subjects the average grade score was 4.9

Attainment 8

Attainment 8 measures the average achievement of pupils in up to eight qualifications including English (double weighted if the combined English qualification, or both language and literature are taken), maths (double weighted), three further qualifications that count in the English Baccalaureate (EBacc subjects only) and three further qualifications that can be GCSE qualifications (including EBacc subjects) or any other non-GCSE qualifications from an approved list.

  • Our Attainment 8 score was 49.1. The national average was 46.7.
  • This puts our Attainment 8 score above national average by 2.4 points. This is roughly equivalent to 2.4 grades above national average for every student.

Progress 8

Progress 8 aims to capture the progress a pupil makes from the end of key stage 2 to the end of key stage 4. It compares pupils’ achievement – their Attainment 8 score – with the average Attainment 8 score of all pupils nationally who had a similar starting point (or ‘prior attainment’), calculated using assessment results from the end of primary school.

  • Our Progress 8 score was 0.14.
  • Students achieved, on average, one and a half grades higher than the national average at Kingdown School.

Attainment in English and Maths (9-4)

This measure looks at the percentage of pupils achieving 9-4 in both English and maths. In 2019, pupils achieved:

  • At Kingdown School, 68% of students gained this measure. The national average was 65%.
  • This puts Kingdown School 2% above national average.

Attainment in English and Maths (9-5)

This measure looks at the percentage of pupils achieving 9-4 in both English and maths. In 2019, pupils achieved:

  • At Kingdown School, 49% of students gained this measure. The national average was 43%.
  • This puts Kingdown School 6% above national average.

EBacc entry and achievement

The EBacc is made up of English, maths, science, a language, and history or geography. In 2019, pupils achieved:

  • At Kingdown School, 21% of students were entered for the EBacc compared to 40% nationally
  • At Kingdown School, the EBacc average point score was 4.2

Staying in Education or Employment

  • At Kingdown School, 96% of students stayed in education or employment compared to 94% nationally
