Options at Key Stage 3
Towards the end of Year 8, students are offered a number of options for their Year 9 curriculum. This process has two key aims:
- To enable students to begin to specialise in areas of the curriculum they particularly enjoy, or are particularly successful in.
- To provide a ‘practice run’ at the GCSE options process, which takes place in Year 9.
Students are able to make choices in the Creative Arts, Design, the Humanities, and an Enrichment Option such as a second foreign language.
In mid-Year 9, students begin the curriculum choices process for GCSE. This allows students to select up to four subjects to study to GCSE level, from a choice of around 20 subjects.
Year 8 in to 9 Options: 2021
Between Year 8 and Year 9, students have the opportunity to make option choices to specialise their interest. These are small changes are designed to help you personalise your subjects and make it more relevant to your future GCSEs.
Most subjects are still compulsory for example all students will continue studying the following subjects:
- Religious Studies
However, you are allowed to focus your studies in Design and Creative Arts by choosing the two subjects in each block that you enjoy and that you might be interested in taking for GCSE.
Block A Subjects are:
- Fashion and Textiles
- Food and Nutrition
- Product Design
Block B subjects are:
- Performing Arts
Helping you to make the right choice
To help you make these decisions, there is a video (above) that has a talk from Mrs Hill about the process.
