The Library at Kingdown School

The Library is open from 8.15am until 4.00pm every day except Fridays, when we close at 3:30pm.

Students are welcome to use both the library and E14 (a computer suite attached to the library) at break times, although the computers in E14 are for work only.

The library itself had an overhaul in 2011 with redecoration, sorting of the layout and major re-organisation of stock. This allowed a streamline of the non-fiction books to take place and offer greater variety in the fiction stock, with a program of updates to the stock. The library continues to encourage students to tell library staff what they would like to see or read in the library.

The Library has invested in ten Amazon Kindles in an attempt to encourage students to read using alternative methods.  The Kindles will also have revision materials on them to help students in their key subjects.

The library also offers the 6th Form a place to study in relative peace and quiet, and as such, we are able to offer 6th Formers the ability to borrow laptops to work on, much like other areas of the school.

After school, the library runs the homework club in E14, which allows students a quiet area in which to work on their homework and access support from TA’s, the librarians and teachers. The library also tries to run at least one big event a year, to highlight something new in the Library or to encourage reading in new and interesting ways.
