Just moments after 8am on the 6th March 2014, Wimbledon House, led by two of its House Captains: Emily Darvill and Evie Daines, commenced the arduous 673 mile journey from Warminster to John O’ Groats, on a multi terrain static triathlon, in aid of our charity “Rays of Sunshine”.
The event comprised of two treadmills, two bikes and two rowers going throughout the day with students and staff competing against each other and against individual targets. With encouragement bellowed from the side line and water flowing freely to rehydrate before another race for the fastest mile, students of all ages smiled northwards as the sweat and tears trickled down; all with one aim: to reach John O’Groats before nightfall.
Students and staff of Wimbledon House were given the opportunity to sign up for a 15 minute slot throughout the day and individually contribute mileage to accumulatively cover the distance. After many amazing efforts from all involved the final two participants, Chris Trimby and Jill Harris glided over the finish line, bringing this demanding challenge to a dramatic end.
A big thank you to the PE Department for providing extra mileage and also to 1 Yorkshire Regiment, not only for the equipment but also for providing two Physical Training Instructors to further encourage our students to be inspired by sport.
