Updated Monday 23rd March, 2020
The government have announced that GCSEs and AS / A Levels will now definitely not take place this summer. Students will be awarded grades based on their teacher’s judgement of the most likely exam-based outcome, non-exam assessment (coursework) where possible, and other relevant information which may affect a student’s examination performance. Grades are anticipated to be awarded before the end of July.
Further details will be released to schools shortly, and we will be sharing this with you when we have it. For now, please note the following:
- Use your time now to continue to work on coursework tasks. Please email your teacher directly if you need advice on what you can be working on to develop your coursework further, and how to submit work for assessment. It is vital that your coursework is completed to the highest possible standard.
- Please do not discard any work covered across your courses, or assessments you have completed. We do not yet know what evidence we may be asked to produce to support a teacher’s predicted grades.
- Universities have been asked to be flexible and do all they can to ensure students’ progress to higher education. They will be contacting students directly over the coming weeks and have stated that there is no reason for the usual admissions cycle to be disrupted.
Please continue to pick first and insurance choice universities by the 5th May (using your mock performance as a guide), as well as applying for student loans via student finance England by the 25th May.
We know many of you are worried about your exams and, above all, that you have worked exceptionally hard and feel that this effort has been in vain. Please rest assured that we will be working our hardest to liaise with the exam boards to get you the grade you deserve, and that we are here to support you in these trying times
We will keep you informed as we know more, and will communicate further by email and through the school website as soon as we have any further to share.
In the meantime if you have any specific questions about your personal situation, please email:
