Last weekend eleven groups of Bronze Duke of Edinburgh participants went to Exmoor to complete their final expedition. We were dropped off in Dunster; our aim was to navigate in our groups to the campsite in Porlock.
We carried all of our equipment, food and clothes; we made our way up the first and nine hours later my team arrived at the campsite – luckily all in one piece! The views from the walk down the valley were still fresh in our minds. We then pitched our tents, cooked our own food and collapsed for the night.
The first team had to get up at 5am – luckily this was not us! We left for our final trek, heading uphill through the woods towards Dunkery Beacon, the highest point in Exmoor.
As we climbed the scenery was spectacular and as we approached the final meeting point we all felt a sense of achievement – despite the blisters. Although there were blood, sweat and tears: the achievement of passing our Bronze D of E Award made it all worthwhile.
